Dr. Michael Grinn, MD, MPH, is a diplomate of the American Board of Anesthesiology, and a double board-certified physician in adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology, specializing in both Anesthesiology and Advanced Perioperative Echocardiography. He currently serves as the Director of Medical Outreach for The Emergency Project, a nonprofit organization devoted to advancing emergency health services.
His journey in medicine started when he was visiting his pediatrician. He was fascinated by the way his doctor carried himself and the impact he had. He wanted to be just like him when he grew up.
And initially, he followed in his footsteps: signing up for pediatric rotations and exploring option for practices. But then, he found anesthesia on rotation and eventually, he graduated to cardiac anesthesia.
After graduating with a Master of Public Health, summa cum laude, and a doctorate of medicine. cum laude, in 2016 from St. George’s University, he did four years of anesthesia residency and a year-long cardiac anesthesia fellowship. He practices with some of the most advanced technology in medicine available, impacting patients’ lives alongside his incredible colleagues.
Clinically his scope of practice involves utilizing regional anesthesia for major orthopedic surgery, vascular surgery and general surgery. Dr. Grinn’s sub-speciality in cardiac surgery has expanded his scope of practice to work specifically on the sickest patients, including those in need of aortic surgery, valve surgery, and bypass surgery. Of particular interest is the integration of echocardiographic guidance for minimally invasive cardiac surgery, including transcutaneous aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcutaneous mitral valve replacement (TMVR), and other percutaneous procedures such as tricuspid clip, and MitraClip procedures.
